Good luck with construction; you'd be surprised how many of the rest of us are in the same boat! :)

How much weight is over the wheels when it's not got an opponent on the flipper?

Around 58g (the whole thing weighs ~98g), which should mean it has a reasonable amount of grip, certainly more than it has now... If I can find the space I'm gonna try add some extra weight, and hopefully should cure some of it's problems.

Some how I think I'll make sure it's made of polycarbonate instead of acrylic next time! (though I could've sworn I had checked it...)

*EDIT* turns out it was made of vinyl, which explains why it was quite so poor, and also why it fooled me into thinking it was poly! :P

Newly repaired Lionel with a poly-carbonate top.

It's a little on the thin side at only 1mm, but it's all I've got atm (that's not 6mm which is too heavy).

Also planning another ant (possibly a spinner) before next AWS; work will start on that around the start of June after exams..

Rory, is there a reason for the name Lionel or is it just a name?

Well I was gonna call it 'Denominator', but during a few rounds of the Robot Wars drinking game in my flat, my housemates decided that it was a stupid name and that it should be called something like Lionel... The name somehow stuck :P

Stanley narrowly avoided being renamed to Richie in the same incident (Which is now used for Rory's feather) :P

I wondered if all you guys had named them in a similar way. Are you aware of my 'Lionel Richie' based ant? Haha

This is Chocolate Bot; proof that you can and probably shouldn't build an antweight in half an hour..

I needed something to test out the new ESC boards that just came back from china, and Lionel's a little too compact to use in testing, so decided to throw something together :P

It's surprisingly good all things considered; even managed to flip over Lionel! Unlikely to make an appearance at the next AWS, but you never know :L

I would, but the motors aren't mine and I may need those wheels for something more serious... Though if I can, I will :L
Would need a little bit of tweaking/ actual soldering/ more cellotape first, but not more than perhaps another 5 mins worth :P

It even self rights so is already doing better than lionel

Did a quick video to demonstrate the silliness of ChocolateBot! I love driving this thing around; it's so comical :P

I think it may well end up in the next AWS, as I've got a whole load of motors coming from china now. May build a thin polycarbonate chassis inside just so it has a bit of structural integrity, and to give me something to attach the motors to (they're currently held in with Blutack! :L). Also'll need to slim down a bit as its 5 inches across, and too tall to squeeze it in on the diagonal..

Ace. Funny how a basic wedge flipper can be made so much more interesting with a few fun changes. Reminds me of Peter's last Flippant.
