Damn it Andy! Just when I thought I'd come up with something original..

It's strange quite how similar that is given I'd never seen it before... How'd it do in fights?

That's rather taken the fun out of it now...

I don't believe it ever competed, so you should definitely enter yours! I'm always interested in seeing more expanding robots.

Gonna try and fit a 7" blade, but it may be pretty flimsy to get it in weight and the cube... but tbf when building a robot like this, anything less is pointless. I expect it to explode spectacularly after it's first hit and then it can be retired to my shelf of mad machines :L

If I can't fit a blade in time, I may just reinstate FlailWhail's folding flails... Likely end terribly, but hey ho :L

I think Cataclysm did compete (sort of) at a couple of RRCs in 2009/2010 but I don't think it was ever in full combat due to expanding issues. I still have that blade :) I might give it another try when my engineering's up to it...

I am slightly worried about the overall stiffness of the robot and those motor cables though!

It's remarkably stiff given the folding chassis; should be able to wield a blade without bending significantly.

I've got a bolt on cover for the electronics and plan to glue/ tie the motor cables up at some point, so that should be fine.
Also added some little clips into the chassis so it locks open properly.

Sorry Dave! :S

Well following a rebuild of Why Wait (I say rebuild; it took 2 days and the only original parts are the wheels and some of the electronics), and just balancing the small blade on Slice To Meet You instead of fitting a bigger one, I finally have a team for the AWS. It was supposed to be Skutter as the fourth member, but given the smoke coming from the electronics I decided to just patch up Bad Idea and enter that instead. Either Why Wait or Slice are getting clustered with a Nano as both have plenty of weight spare (Lazy, I know, but I've run out of free time). As such, my team's a variety of spinners and Bullydozer.. It will probably be a fairly short AWS for me, but as I'm the EO that's probably a good thing!

With all this talk of EDF pushers, I decided to give one a go. However I found it quite uncontrollable and rather lacking in pushing power. Not sure I'd ever want to run one in competition.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oc2zNdr ... e=youtu.be
