though they do a whole load of different gear ratios...
I just took the circlips off the brushless then pressed the 2mm shaft through so it was sticking out the bottom of the motor instead. I then carefully prized the cog off the motor that came with the gearbox and pressed it on to the shaft on the brushless (could do with some loctite). The brushless then just bolts straight onto the gearbox using the existing mounting holes.
Output speed is only about 300rpm with the brushless and the 20:1 gear box, which is loads less than I expected, but it has a ton of torque and the whole setup weighs 60g.
I want to try it with one of these instead, but I have a feeling the gearbox would self destruct long before it stalled :L http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/stor ... 200w_.html
This setup was going to be for Skutter, but it doesn't ramp fast enough atm so is likely going into a robot I'm currently calling Frontal Robotomy... more on that as it develops.

Considering even the most punchy 25mm brushed motors you find on those gearmotors pull 60w at stall (5a @ 12v), I'll be surprised if the gearbox will handle even the smaller brushless (90w cont.) for long. Be interesting to see if it does!

What ratio is the 1000rpm motors then? 4:1? The 200rpm one you linked to is interesting for me to get a more torquey drive for a future beetle.

The idea of putting that brushless on a 20:1 gearbox was to get the same 1000rpm output but a load more torque.. sadly the brushless is about 3 times slower than claimed on HK, but still fine for my needs.
And I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt; they won't be under any shock loading and the brushless will likely stall protect so it'll hopefully cope. If it breaks, it breaks; just have to hope I get the robot built before that

Well, finished another exam today so decided to take the rest of the day off and build some robots
Bad Idea was pretty broken having fought it in the beetle arena with a metal floor (Unstoppable force met an Immovable object ... unstoppable force lost..); the blade was very blunt and the 3mm motor shaft was bent. Seeing as I'd already proved that a giant vertical spinner was a bad idea, I felt I should rebuild it to find yet more designs with oversized blades which don't really work. Thus 'Megabyte' was born...
It's basically just a horizontal version of Bad Idea, but it drives quite a lot better, and will hopefully be invertible with some tweaking... This was mainly built for the event in Wales; hoping it does better than it's predecessor
Fun fact: in an act of procrastination I went through and counted how many robots I'd built since I started just over a year ago; Megabyte is my 35th :L

A lot of 3.2mm Hardox... I would not advise using it

35 is a lot! I've made numerous iterations of the same robots, in terms of total robots I've made about 15, and about 9 for other people!
