Looks good Jim, though I am more excited to see Raoul come out for AWS37! Doubt I'll be finishing joint 5th again for this one!

I was expecting the flipper to be flat plate rather than curved down like that. I thought scarab would be the full width of the cube, wasn't expecting the carbon fibre bits.

Thanks guys. :)
I was originally going to have a flat sheet flipping surface, which was going to use the full diagonal of the 4" cube, but,I decided to use the current layout,so that other robots couldnt just roll over it,as can happen with a simple wedge shape. So the diagonal space has now been used for an extended carbon under tray to stop it getting stranded on its side. The weight of the Ti has stopped it from self righting now though! :(
Still got some minor details to iron out, before working on Raoul, boreworm needs rebuilding from scratch, and I want to rebuild the blue ringed octopus too.Got some parts for a new drum weapon too. :)
Work keeps getting in the way. That and COD MW3
I am now off to make a miniature sander out of my electric toothbrush.(great idea!) :)

To sort out the self righting problem,I have re designed the lifting arm.
The new servo arm has 5mm longer travel in the slot, and the slot is also 7.5mm lower at the point nearest the pivit, which should increase the travel by around 15 - 20mm (guess).
The old one is on top,the improved one at the bottom.

Should work,in theory at least! :)

Decided to try out the original design for the flipper on the front...

05mm Ti sheet.128g.Seems easier to drive like this.
Quick video flipping 180g 4" cube.

Think I might keep it like this, and see how it performs.
Cheers Jim. :)

I prefer that configuarting, Jim. Think it looks better, and harder to avoid the flipper. I'd be more worried about fighting this version than the first one.

Thanks Dave. :)
I am thinking I might build another one, with the other front end,and see which one works better.

Right.I have not been happy with the front end of scarab. If I used a flat sheet of Ti,then i couldnt put anything on the sides to stop it getting stranded,so on the fifth attempt...

Image

I have come up with something that has a shallow sloped front, ramped areas to the sides, and catching fins to stop robots from going completely over the top.The 1mm Ti armour weighs 49g!So it now tips the scales at 152g,but I am sure I can loose 2g from the carbon undertray.New lifter arm is on its way from shapeways too, should arrive tomorrow,I hope. Then it might even self right!
And the new wheels got here this week too. :)
