lipo batteries
hello i am going to be upgrading to lipos soon and i was wondering if anyone could recommend me a good, cheap, light battery or possibly sell me one at maidstone. also how to you plug them in? do you need to run them through a regulator or something?

I reccommend Micron Radio Control for lipos themselves, their delivery's really fast in my experience and they have a good selection - the 120mah ones will power most ants, although I prefer 180mah as then I'm not worrying about charging all the time. You'll probably want 2S (7.4v) for most robots, 3S (11.1v) is mainly useful for fast rammers and spinners.
Connecting them...Atomic Workshop sell the JST connectors preattached to wires, which saves a lot of bother, and those go directly into the robot speed controller - you'll need a regulator if you're using servo drive, Andy Hibberd's wiring topic is probably better for learning about that than for anything I could offer

thanks my charge doesn't have jst connection it only has a balance connector, is theresome type of adapter i can use to charge it through the jst, or do i need a better charger? as it looks like those batterys only have jst connectors =/. also if i am using a peter waller controller can i run it on 7.4v without blowing it?

I don't really know about chargers, mine just plugs straight in you will need a specialised LiPo charger for them, if your charger has a LiPo mode that will work with some well insulated connections to one of the Atomic Workshop leads I think.
Peter's controllers work on 7.4 and 11.1v, as lots of robots demonstrate 4+ WD on 11.1v might be slightly outside the scope of the standard boards but that's about it, it's more a current issue than a voltage one.

You can solder any connector onto the wires comming from a lipo charger. Just check it can do the right number of cells.
My lipo charger currently has 5 or 6 different connectors on the end. You can pick up a cheap charger for under ?15 that will auto sense the number of cells, but you may need a 12V power supply on top.
