Re: Seismic Robot Build Diary [First Time Builder]
You could use 3mm polycarbonate for the base, but it will almost certainly be too heavy if you make the entire robot from 3mm. Most people tend to use 1mm or 1.5mm as it is fairly easy to bend and a reasonable compromise between weight and strength. Most people use Pololu (or equivalent) 10mm gear m...

Re: PCB Manufacture
With very small boards like this you may often get a few extra, but it will depend on how they fill the panels when they run the boards. A good deal if you get the offer and can make use of it though!

Re: Help/Build diary for/of my first antweight.
What are the dimensions? Without some dimensions you could have any arbitrary answer but the angles wouldn't necessarily be what you wanted!

Re: Help/Build diary for/of my first antweight.
You can figure out the movement your linkage will give using some fairly basic geometry, remember that a servo doesn't move much more than 90 degrees without some tweaking. Figuring out the speed can be a bit more complex as it's not always constant. This tool http://blog.rectorsquid.com/linkage-mec...

Re: Help/Build diary for/of my first antweight.
First of all, welcome to the forum! Rory's kit won't work with DSMX transmitters, only DSM2.This is down to the receiver module that he uses. You can get the speed controller board without the receiver and use your own to avoid compatibility problems but it will probably be bigger and heavier. The T...

Re: Best Brushed Drive Motors?
The only reason for not recommending mounting motors with big wheels directly to the chassis is the massive gap under the back! There are ways around it of course and that's part of the fun
Bottom line: build what you like, however you like. Have fun!

I've done the same, doesn't mean I'd recommend it though!

Re: Best Brushed Drive Motors?
6-7cm diameter wheels are perfectly feasible in an antweight, although you wouldn't want 30:1 gearboxes - most arenas are less than 1 metre long. The Pololu motors (or Ebay "equivalents") are ubiquitous in ants. With larger wheels you will need to mount them above the chassis rather than s...

Re: "Sioc" Build Diary
The largest, and also shown in the video, is that Sioc has far less grip on its left wheel when the right wheel isn't in use. The entire machine drifts left constantly when I'm driving it, but if the stick is in the bottom left or top right position, then there doesn't seem to be any grip at all, e...

Re: PCB Manufacture
I recently stumbled across this site which gives prices from a number of low-cost prototype vendors: http://pcbshopper.com/ The only downside is all the manufacturers seem to be based in China or the USA so shipping time can be an issue (long or expensive!). I've yet to find anywhere in Europe that ...
