Could you use something like this : https://www.pololu.com/product/2123 It's a step up voltage regulator , so you could supply 5v to your servos from your 1S, 3.7v batt? Once you've confirmed with the aa batteries that voltage is the problem, perhaps look for something like this. You can probably ge...

Just had a go at 3d printing a football with flats so it doesn't roll about too much. A 12 sided polygon wrapped around into a sphere seems to work well.
