Re: Dual weapon ant build diary

Have been taking a look at the side armour and think I can reduce it down to 2mm CF, so that should half the weight well reduce it some what.
I have started to make the hinge and top chassis and it's looking nice, current weight is 160g.

Re: Dual weapon ant build diary

Holes could work quite nicely for weight reduction, as could taking one of the motors out and spinning it with just one; Jim (Hi Jim!!!! :D) took both those approaches with Raoul (on right) and it worked very well. Part of my inspiration was Raoul, its a good looking machine, Luckily i have the abi...

Re: Dual weapon ant build diary

So... I have machined my 4mm carbon fibre into the side plates, and I'm getting the impression there is a bit of glass fibre inside the mix. The fibres were deffinatly White in the centre, luckily I didn't pay for it and it was off cuts from a massive octorotor I machined for a friend, but still... ...

Re: Peter Wallers Robot Ramblings

Hi Peter, May be worth checking the failure rates of the other layers, try snapping the Nylon print above to see if the layers break too, as it could be a sign that the temperature is slightly too low and the layers are not sticking together 100%. As that fail was along a single layer it could be a ...

Re: Dual weapon ant build diary

I have been working on a new chassis for the ant, and so far this is what i have come up with https://c1.staticflickr.com/8/7642/27232421456_5a95c9fb4f.jpg It looks a bit sporty on its own i think, but the spoiler is meant to be a back guard from the drum. I have had the ant driving around and spinn...

Re: Dual weapon ant build diary

Today I managed to get to use my milling machine at lunch time, and am very impressed by how well the mill left the edges of the acrylic (pinched from model making) I will be using carbon in the final one, but I do like the clear plastic look, although it would shatter, anyways, my chassis base is p...
