Re: Ant Freeze 8, March 5th 2022. EVENT THREAD & Sign ups
Didn't think we'd be able to make this one - but just realised that if we get up ridiculously early and catch the first train of the day, we should be able to get to Hinckley station by 09:30. So assuming there's no disruption and we can find a taxi, might just be able to get there in time for tech ...

Re: Ant Freeze 8, March 5th 2022.
Out of curiosity, where is the best scuttlebutt for AWS rumours?

Re: Ant Freeze 8
I think that is an excellent compromise. Wholeheartedly support. One tournament - but each entry on a team has to be in a different 'weapons category'. The basic premise for encouraging robot diversity is a good one (it's already prompted me to start work on a couple of 'percussive weapon' designs a...

Re: Antweight arena designs
Personally I'm a huge fan of the low wall options. They greatly reduce the chance of accidental drive-offs but still allow flippers, spinners, and even a well-driven wedge to knock their opponent over the edge.

Re: Antweight arena designs
One thought on floor material is that while aluminium may sound more durable than softwood, a hardox or titanium disk will still take big divots out of it and leave nasty gouge marks that would quickly make life difficult for low wedges/acetate. Then you've got the challenge of filing/burnishing out...

Re: T_Y's Build Log
I did enjoy watching those Mecanum wheels in action as PLAPIACOM skittered around the arena. Poetry in (omni-directional) motion!

Re: 3D printers
I mainly use three filaments, all of which I get from "3D Jake". Shipping from Germany can be a bit slow (normally about a week) but I find their range and service excellent: - Fiberlogy's 'PA12+CF15' (a Nylon/Carbon Fibre mix) for most bodywork/armour. - PolyMaker's 'PolyMax PC' (polycarb...

Starting Positions
Here's a question that has occasionally bothered me at the few events I've attended so far. I couldn't see anything in the official rules so was hoping we could clear this up before Saturday. Are there any guidelines/expectations/rigidly-held-beliefs on where the robots should be positioned at the s...

Re: IMPORTANT COVID-19 INFORMATION - Antweight World Series 62
Read, Understood, Agreed. I'm fully jabbed and will bring my card. Anthony's only 10 so no jab obvs but will do an LFT before we catch the train on Friday evening. And thanks for taking on all the extra hassle of organising an AWS during these still-difficult times. Funny to think back now to our la...

Re: Antweight World Series 62 - Midsomer Norton - November 20th 2021
Tension starting to mount. Trains and hotel booked - robots (mostly) ready - last minute panic-printing of spare parts and 'head-scratching over where I left that vital tool' now well underway... Only 82 sign-ups on Rampage last time I checked so might not need to limit entries per team... or is eve...
