Re: DisinfectANT - Antweight First Build Log

Had some help with this bit 0:D There is no way for me to make precise bends on metal in my workshop :-? .. i should probably have not been lazy, and 3D printed a jig for these to do it myself. https://image.ibb.co/eBqEHf/P801089-5-1.jpg 1.5mm alu ... i think i should have gone with 2.5mm or ...

Re: DisinfectANT - Antweight First Build Log

Thanks Shakey! Again, that's high praise from you sir :D I got a good deal on it, all in with PC. Same guy is selling a Sherline CNC Mill with PC for £850, can do alu, (with coolant upgrade >)mild steel and titanium on it. I'll hook you up if you are tempted ;) Im still faffing with it really, so di...

Re: DisinfectANT - Antweight First Build Log

Hah thanks George, that means a lot coming from you! :D I run a model making / 3d printing company for the day job, so making intricate and pretty stuff is no problem. But making something which will hold together and work in combat ... well.. we shall see  Hope to have some assembly and tests ...

Re: DisinfectANT - Antweight First Build Log

Getting all the bits together. Drum core fits perfectly, bearings press fit in. Problem is dont have an alan key small enough to tighten the locking worm screws  Time to buy yet more alan keys Removed the timing belt teeth from the drum to add in some slip to avoid motor stalling... and easier...

Re: DisinfectANT - Antweight First Build Log

Haha thanks Decode :D I have a bad habit of over engineering things (belt driven drum, prime example lol) so i think this bot could be made out of much fewer parts. But i think this version will look mean at least ;) Should have some assembly going on at the end of next week. Aiming to be built in 3...

Re: chassis dimensions for 3d print

Not experienced with combat bots, but I do run a 3D printing company :D (DLP FDM SLA DOD SLS methods) so i can advise on that. Go with 100% infill :) For a thin 1/2mm wall, you will not use many more pence of material, but will be much stronger. Also increase your feed rate slightly so it overextrud...

Re: chassis dimensions for 3d print

What material will you use?

For example, PLA or Polycarbonate is going to make a big difference to strength and thus the thickness you will want to use.

Re: DisinfectANT - Antweight First Build Log

Silicone wheels. Not bad at 1.1g each. The hubs are cast in polyurethane, cheap and very light with excellent impact resistance like a thermoplastic. https://preview.ibb.co/eTKZkf/IMG-20181015-103836.jpg Silicone went for 25 shore hardness as i wanted it soft and grippy. Time to build the main chass...

Looking great! Im envious of your speedy progress :D Wish my projects moved this hastily forward
I always love the look of see through bots like this. Definitely agree you can lower the wedge angle. Good luck with the next steps!

Re: DisinfectANT - Antweight First Build Log

Slow progress! Went on holiday for a few weeks, working like mad on regualr job to catch up. But managed to start test 3D printing some parts to test the fit. Seems no tolerance is needed to fit the wheels on the motors snugly after all. https://image.ibb.co/bzH95p/Dk_Op_Wb_FXg_AIt_C6p_jpg_large.jpg

Re: DisinfectANT - Antweight First Build Log

At last some free time to start cutting bits. The table saw is actually much more accurate than i thought for cutting small chunks (considering the size of the blade!) Inside 1mm will be fine as the stock is machined in the mill to be accurate :) https://image.ibb.co/cjUWzo/IMG_20180606_184538.jpg S...

Re: What is it with Americans and imperial units?

100% Was looking for end mills yesterday and kept finding things like 6.35mm diameter ... oh quarter of an inch well that's useless to me :-? Just remember an inch is split into 16ths, 12 inches to the foot, 3 feet to the yard, 220 yards to the furlong, 8 furlongs to the mile and 3 miles make ...

Re: Disinfect-ant - Antweight First Build Log

There hasn't been an ant called Disinfect-ant in the many years I've been around, though there was one called deoderAnt, which would've made for an interesting sounding battle... Awesome :D Thanks for the info on name. Maybe I can keep up a theme of household product ant puns :P Wow I'm loving this...
