Re: Kosmos Build Diary

To be fair, I think the chances of me making it to an event any time in the next decade are slim... But if I do, we could always have a grudge match for the naming rights.

Re: Das Mikro - £12 dual channel speed controller with mixing

I've also got one of these winging its way from vanuatu. I can't imagine I'll be using it in my ants unless it is absolutely spot on in terms of control. A decent ESC can last forever, so is worth investing in. But for fun side projects, it's finally nice to have a cheap option, that is (hopefully) ...

Re: Total cost?

True. I might be underestimating hobojoes knowledge. But it does speak volumes that even amongst experienced roboteers only a tiny percentage make their own. I'm just thinking how frustrating it would be if you had all the motors, receivers, batteries but couldn't use them until your learnt enough t...

Re: Total cost?

But the kit is really just a good esc and a receiver. None of the work is done for you. And good speed controllers are very limited in UK antweights. Your choices are basically: 1. Rory's esc. Cheap, reliable and designed specifically for antweights. 2. Sabretooth. Expensive, heavy and only made in ...

Re: First Antweight help

Welcome. All looks like it would work fine, but just a few recommendations... The battery is way too heavy. You could get away with much smaller one. But if you're new, I guess it would be good for practice as it will last ages. For competition most people use batteries below 200mah. Sabretooths are...

Re: Total cost?

It depends on your design really. At the most basic you could probably get away with a soldering iron, pliers, mini screwdriver set, scissors, Stanley knife, a file, a ruler and some gaffer tape.

Luxuries might involve a multi tool, 3d printer and a lathe or mill.

Re: Total cost?

Motors are fine, but a bit pricey, just get some copies from ebay. And as far as I'm aware neither of those controllers are suitable. I use these https://www.pololu.com/product/1220 but they aren't plug and play. You have to program them with your own code. I think you'd be better just buying a cont...

Re: Newbie saying hello and looking for local(ish) events.

Ah, I know it very well, drive through there every weekend. The hall where I've held my previous events is literally a 10 minute drive away. I say Caerphilly, but it's actually Machen.
