Re: Earthwormjim's Stuff

Has to be one of the most awesome looking insect class machines I think I've seen. Bravo on the design flare, it's gorgeous!

Re: Dominance of pushers at AWS46

Great to see a new arena in the works. Although I too think it still heavily favours pushers. Not to be blunt, I don't mean to slam anyone, but there seems to be a global assumption that an arena should have 2 or more pits/dropoffs in ants. Why is this the case? Why does an arena need more than one ...

Re: Dominance of pushers at AWS46

Much of why I'm not particularly attracted to antweights is the arenas I see. An arena in which there is room to breathe (drive), a spinner isn't just going to fly out (ditto any high energy bot, spinner, flipper, fast rambot or otherwise), and where a lucky clash in the middle is less likely to lin...

Re: Another New Antweight..

Considering even the most punchy 25mm brushed motors you find on those gearmotors pull 60w at stall (5a @ 12v), I'll be surprised if the gearbox will handle even the smaller brushless (90w cont.) for long. Be interesting to see if it does!

Re: Grades of Titanium

I know Grade 5 and 6AL-4V to be the same thing as well, for what it's worth. I'd say you're safe going for that bit.

Now what kinda weapon requires half inch titanium? :)

Re: Gearing motors together

Ah, you want the two to run in sync. Guessed you might have just wanted two motors behind a massive weapon, hence a differential would work. Also yeah the thought of running a motor with more reduction/lower KV into one side of a differential and a higher speed input on the other sounds fun. Could m...

Re: Gearing motors together

Could you run through a custom or model differential? I had a Lego one (might have been K-nex) years ago that would have been shredded by brushless power but something like it could be built for purpose. On this scale delrin bevel gears and such are cheap. I want to look into this at beetle scale fo...

+28 for Lasermaster, they cut a boatload of 1.5 and 3mm stainless for me recently and were absolutely brilliant, whilst by far the cheapest service around.

Hi all. Ages ago Harry very kindly gave me some 12mm gearmotors and a sabretooth speedo, because he's a nice guy like that, and I've had them on my desk ever since. I recently invested in a mini lathe, and in searching for things to do ahead of getting stuck into a new feather build, I thought I'd m...
