Re: BotFest 3 (14th September 2019)

This one's even relatively local to me now! *cries*
I honestly have zero time. I'm hoping I might be able to touch my TX again some time next year - Ant Freeze maybe? But the workload on this course is insane.
I'd be surprised if I can make anything this side of Christmas :(

Re: T_Y's Build Log

That looks really good - I'm sorry I won't be at the Sheffield aws! I need to move that weekend is the problem. That's when my halls here expire and I move to wherever my first placement school is. Which they still haven't confirmed. But ye, has the plow /wedge had any effect on the gear slip...

Re: T_Y's Build Log

I'll second Kyro's advice there... Otherwise what drillbit are you using? I've found the dremel own brand ones too be lackluster and I use cobalt drillbits I bought from a toolstation. They wander less. I'll advise against a dremel workstation though. The construction on them is not super rigid, and...

Re: 3D printing

Look up hackspace foundation, they operate a number of hackspaces around the country. Materials wise, I don't 3d print. BUT I know Peter uses various nylon based filaments, Shakey uses ABS (it's a pain to print but does hold up well), and there are a number of carbon cored / reinforced filaments out...

Re: The Hotel Lima, for Ants: A Build Diary

Okay, so it's been a while since I've posted here... Oops. So aws 58 was FUN. I had a great time, and did okay! I went 1:2 with Jammin Good, 2:2 with Jiggy Sawdust, and 2:2 with The Pushbot From Mars. Somewhat annoyingly my brother set the bar a touch higher by going 3:2 with Fling Mustachio! There ...

Re: Basic Flipper Hinge Question

I too somewhat uncreatively use hinges to hinge my flippers. 1/2 inch brass hinges, available from practically any hardware store. They come with little pins - I drilled the pin holes out to 2mm and secured them with m2 nuts and bolts. Another thing I've done is just lined up 3mm holes spaced with a...

Re: RoboShowdown

I'm registered. Jiggy may drop out to make way for my spinner (depending on how that build goes), but 3 bots are registered and 3 shall attend!
I'll see you all on the 10th!

Re: RoboShowdown

I want to sign up to say I'll be bringing 3 bots, but Jiggy and Pushbot need redesigns and my spinner is neither built nor named yet! So I don't have pictures. I'm also not sure which bots to bring as I am planning on building a spinner and don't know who I'd replace with it. Should I sign up 3 bots...

Re: T_Y's Build Log

I generally only use 1.5mm where I need rigidity. That said you saw the hole that Trigger made in the 1mm (wait, that might've been 0.5mm. I'm not sure) polycarb the 7075 aluminium was bolted to. Also your front armour where you'll have an optional wedge - perforate that to your heart's content as i...

Re: ESCs and channel mixing

I'm not entirely sure how flashing an Esc works? If an Esc is programmed to do mixing, then it does it's own mixing. If it isn't, it doesn't. I'm afraid I can't give you any advice on how to go about changing that on an Esc - I've always thought of them as one or the other and it's unchangeable Once...

Re: ESCs and channel mixing

I always mix on my tx (devo7e). It does depend on whether you've got a tx that can do mixing, but if you do then it's easy. What transmitter do you have?
I've also never used fingertech stuff, but an Esc is an Esc, right?

Re: Coping with the demand (An EO's perspective)

I enjoyed yesterday IMMENSELY. I hadn't expected to help beyond basic setup / strike at all, but I'm glad I did. I also wouldn't expect to be given free entry for it, and I'd be more than happy to pay £5 entry per robot. My one concern regarding this rule is that it might discourage people from ente...

Re: Team Pompidou First Antweight Build/Questions

Meanwhile I love my 7e. If you've flashed it to run deviation firmware then you'll want Dsmx or dsm2. I recommend lemonrx receivers, though I also want to try the BangGood Redcon 4ch dsm2 receivers as they're a little cheaper and smaller than the 6ch lemons

Really looking forwards to the video! And glad to rest my voice!
I hadn't expected to wind up judging or calling - I'm glad I did though! Much fun was had. A HUGE thank you to Chris, and I look forwards to playing with that Awescv4!
