Re: TinyTwo Speed Controllers
Hehe yeah, ground planes have never been my forte; I know that you should have one, but I'm trying to learn how it should be laid out properly for best effect. These ESCs are the first high power PCBs I've ever laid out, so it's all a little hit and miss atm! (Though I have to say in my relatively s...

Re: TinyTwo Speed Controllers
Well, despite it working in Lionel at the AWS, I don't think I'll be doing a commercial version of the High Power of the Nano Two, as those chips are just too picky to work under the conditions that they're put under on my boards. Alex (Haywire) tried to fit one to Accelerant, but we found that the ...

Re: What counts as a walker?
From the rules: Walker - A robot whose final drive output rotates through less than 180 degrees (e.g. legs) Shufflebot - A robot that rests on part of its body during the recovery phase of its leg movement. So I not sure the legs on the RHex would count i'm afraid.. *EDIT* Ah, you beat me to it Pete...

Re: Long Term Future of AWS's
Is there any way fights can be held in parallel in separate arenas, at least for the first few rounds? This would mean splitting the entrants into two groups and running the qualifiers for each group side by side, with the winners from each group going into a semi final or final. It would require a ...

Re: Rule 3c - Arena Drop-off
Yeah, I'd agree and say keep it nice and simple: between 25-50% drop off, minimum 30cm gap sounds fine to me.

Re: Rule 3b - Arena Size
Yeah, thinking about it, Lionel would almost certainly get stuck on the smallest of joints! Would another solution be to have a floor with a joint, but then have some kind of rubber sheet or similar that can be secured over the entire arena floor making one flat surface, but also flexible enough to ...

Re: Rule 3b - Arena Size
Has an antweight arena with a joint in the floor been tried?
It would have to be a precise joint to stop robots getting stuck on it, but it would mean that the arena could be larger and still fit in the back of a car..

Re: Rule 3c - Arena Drop-off
...In terms of dropoff I agree it needs to be increased but do wonder if 75% is a bit too high. Wait, Increasing the drop off? I'm guessing you mean walls instead unless you've suddenly changed your opinion against everything you've said previously! :P I've stated my 2 cents on this topic before, b...

Re: The AWS43 Feedback Thread
The reason a 4WD pusher has an advantage in this situation is obviously traction; yes, anyone can push someone off the edge, however a 4WD pusher can do that more readily than any other design. They have greater control over their opponent, and ultimately a much better chance of getting their oppone...

Re: Another New Antweight..
Some how I think I'll make sure it's made of polycarbonate instead of acrylic next time! (though I could've sworn I had checked it...)
*EDIT* turns out it was made of vinyl, which explains why it was quite so poor, and also why it fooled me into thinking it was poly!
